MEDICAID SUPPORTS NATIONAL HOSPITAL ABUJA TOWARDS THE TREATMENT OF CANCER PATIENTS

Her excellency Dr Mrs. Zainab Bagudu, founder of Medicaid and a Woman who has a long standing advocacy on Cancer Care in Nigeria and her team paid an advocacy visit to the National Hospital, Abuja yesterday to mark this Year’s International Cancer Week and made huge donation to Cancer Patients.
She deliberately chose National Hospital as her focal point because of the Hospital’s strategic location, and its efforts in Cancer Care for Patients coming from all parts of the Country.
She was received by the Chief Medical Director National Hospital Abuja Prof. Muhammad Raji Mahmud flanked by NHA Directors and other key officers.

AIRWAY DEVELOPMENT INCORPORATED (ADI) DONATES 30 AIRWAY MANIKINS AND OTHER EQUIPMENT TO NHA

Airway Development Incorporated donated 30 Airway Manikins and other equipment to National Hospital Abuja for training in Airway Management. The donation was made yesterday during the inaugural programme for the establishment of Airway Simulation Centres and Zonal Airway Workshops organized by the Airway Development Incorporated (ADI) in collaboration with the Society of Specialists in Airway Management Nigeria (SSAM) held in National Hospital Abuja.

In his speech, the President ADI, Dr Daniel Tapia said his teams have been equipping health care facilities with life saving materials for 15 years but realized that it was necessary to provide guidance, education and foundation so that the equipment provided will be used properly. He also said that, with the Simulation Centres in place, it will be easier to deploy more technology.

The Chief Medical Director, National Hospital Abuja Assoc. Prof. Muhammad Raji Mahmud in his response, described the project as wonderful, amazing, a life saver and essential for emergency anaesthesia. He added that considering the importance of the project, Nigeria was lucky to have up to 30 centres enjoying this programme. He also commended the team for being passionate and involving different specialists who normally work together in saving lives. The CMD then promised Management’s support towards the success of the programme.

Earlier, the Lead of Airway Development Incorporated in Nigeria Dr Rabiu Muhammad said that over the past seven years, ADI made a huge donation of equipment that improves anaesthesia emergency management and critical care in Nigeria. Dr Rabiu added that they have distributed 15000 bougies in Nigeria by ensuring that it is available in all Teaching Hospitals nationwide.

The President of the Society of Specialists in Airway Management Nigeria (SSAM) Dr Aderonke Adesiyan said the event marks the institution of training in Airway Management aiming at least four hospitals in each of the Six Geo Political Zones of the country. She said with the simulation centres in place, health care practitioners will have airway management training at their doorstep.

The NHA Director Clinical Services/CMAC Dr Abba Badamasi, Deputy CMAC Dr O.A. Badejo and Deputy Director /HoD Nursing Alh. Umar Aliyu and NHA Staff from various fields were in attendance.
